I absolutely loved this place quite simply because I’m a leathercrafter.
My wife and I took the tour.
There are two rooms to the museum - one with the history of making leather in Russia, and many examples of tannens and replicas of traditional equipment and instruments used in the production of leather. There were also many examples of exotic leathers from fish, snakes and cayman.
In the second room were lots of exhibits of old leather items going as far back as I think the 18th century. Shoes, wallets, bags and cases, and also sewing machines.
There were stunning examples of ‘leather art’ - painted leather carvings.
There is also a very well-stocked shop where you can buy many different handmade items.
I even got to look inside their amazing workshop.
Unfortunately the tour was automated with audio recordings that were only in Russian, and my Russian wasn’t good enough to understand what was being said. Regardless, it was still very interesting to see.
